Don’t Be an Annoying Driver
Driving a vehicle whether new or used is an enormous responsibility. That’s why when you see other drivers on the road that do not seem to take driving seriously, it can be downright annoying and even deadly. Many of these annoying drivers are responsible for having a “near miss” or accident or are the cause of road rage.
We all have a list annoying habits of drivers. Here are top annoying habits often mentioned:
1. Drivers who don’t signal or signal too early or too late. Your turn signal lets other drivers, including cyclists and pedestrians, know you intend to turn or change lanes. You must use your turn signal at least 100 feet before turning or changing lanes. Once this is done, you need to turn off your signal light so other motorists don’t get confused about your intentions.
2. Leaving your headlights on high beam. You should always use high beams outside cities, particularly in rural areas where there are no street lights, and you are supposed to dim your lights when there are oncoming vehicles, or when you are approaching another vehicle from behind. High beam lights can blind oncoming motorists. Your high beams could cause them to have an accident or even lead them to crash into you. In some cities it is illegal to use or even flash high-beam headlights within 500 feet of an oncoming vehicle.
3. Tailgating. Driving too close behind a vehicle does not leave sufficient distance to prevent a collision if the vehicle in front stops suddenly. Many annoying drivers tailgate hoping the motorist in front of them will speed up. It’s no guarantee they will and it’s no guarantee the tailgater can stop if to the vehicle in front stops suddenly. In many jurisdictions, tailgating is illegal.
4. Rubber-neckers. Do you ever wonder why traffic slows down to almost a halt when there’s an accident, even if the vehicles involved are on the side of the road? Too often drivers slow down to look at an accident and then speed up after. Rubber-neckers can contribute to heavy traffic more than the accident itself.
5. Talking on a cell phone or texting while driving. In many states, these annoying driving habits are illegal because they often lead to fatal accidents. Drivers who use their cell phone or text while driving don’t have their eyes on the road or hands on the steering wheel. They weave from lane to lane or drive slower than other motorists, causing confusion and potential accidents. Putting on make-up while driving is tantamount to the same thing, so ladies, please performing your grooming habits before you get into the car.
While we may describe these habits as “annoying,” they can be dangerous. Don’t be an annoying driver. Be a safe and responsible driver for your sake and that of other motorists. Your car will be happier, too!
