Don’t Be A Distracted Driver
Driving a car is a big responsibility and with it comes the obligation to be a diligent and safe driver. Distracted driving increases your chances of getting involved in a motor vehicle accident.
Data from the Iowa Department of Transportation shows in 2017, nearly 9,000 of the more than 55,000 motor vehicle crashes in Iowa were caused by a distraction. Nearly 400 of those crashes involved drivers talking on or manually operating an electronic device.
Talking on a cell phone or texting while driving are the most dangerous driving distractions. Officials say sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for five seconds. At 55 mph, that's like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed. Turn off your phone while driving, so you won’t be tempted to look at it.
Adjusting devices in the car, like the radio or navigation system is another form of distracted driving that can take your eyes off the road and increase your risk of getting into an accident. Program your navigation system before leaving from home and if you have to adjust it, pull over.
Some people think they can multitask and drive while talking to people in their car, or while eating, drinking, or smoking. All these activities may seem harmless, but they divert your attention from focusing on the road.
There are also people on the road who are stressed and their minds wander off as they are driving; others are tired, get drowsy and even fall asleep on the wheel. If you are tired, roll down the window so the fresh air will help keep you awake; better yet, stop your car at a rest stop and fuel up with some coffee.
You cannot drive safely if you engage in any activity that causes you to take your eyes of the road. Taking your eyes off the road for just two seconds doubles your chances of getting into an accident.
Driving is a serious task and difficult enough to do without distractions. Driving requires your full attention. You have to pay attention to road conditions, your speed, traffic laws, signs and signals and yes, crazy drivers on the road. Don’t be one of them.

Date: September 21, 2018 | Category: Car Shopping
When buying a used car, mileage is an important factor, but age can be a big factor, too. In some cases, it may matter more.
The norm for the “average” number of miles per year is 15,000 miles. So a car that is five years old with a mileage of 75,000 miles would be considered average. Cars with a mileage that is significantly less would be considered to be low mileage, and cars with more would be considered high mileage. Read more to know if mileage or age matter more when purchasing a used car.
