Traveling Safe During COVID-19
Despite COVID-19, Americans are making plans to travel. Until a vaccine is developed and proven effective, health experts say we need to assume coronavirus will still be around, so travelers must exercise measures to mitigate risk.
According to a study conducted by travel marketing and research firm Longwoods International, when it is appropriate to travel again, for their first trip half of Americans (52%), will visit friends and family domestically. Three-fourths (74%) will travel by car, and a quarter (24%) by plane. Only eight percent do not intend to travel during the next six months.
For those driving, half of their trips will be within 200 miles from home (52%), while the other half plan to travel farther (48%). How can car drivers and their travel companions prepare so they will remain healthy and safe during their trip?
Get your car serviced. Apart from a few essential trips to the store, the bank or the pharmacy, your car may not have had much exercise since the stay-at-home orders went into effect. Have your vehicle checked to make sure it is in good running order, that the oil is changed, the liquids replenished, the brakes and lights are in good condition, so you won't encounter unexpected surprises on your trip.
Plan ahead; you cannot just wing it. Research and plan your route. If you are in a low-risk area and plan to travel to a high-risk area, you need to be careful. Also, not all states follow the same roadmap for a return to normalcy. Although interstate travel is not forbidden, states have a right to protect their borders in the interest of public health. Some states may have border checkpoints and screen motorists coming from high-risk areas. Some cities require drivers to wear face coverings when pumping gas.
If you plan an overnight stay, contact hotels and find out if they are open. Ask about safety practices they employ to protect their guests from possible transmission of the virus.
Plan where you will get gas, stop for restroom breaks and food along the way. Consider drive-through or carry-out options for food. Follow hygiene protocols at these stops
A road trip is not complete without snacks, water and other beverages. This time you should also pack disinfectant spray and wipes, extra masks, and gloves.
Clean your car. Disinfect its interior thoroughly before your travel companions enter the car. Travel only with members of your household. Including friends from other households in the car poses a risk to your health and the health of others in your household. If you or any of your traveling companions have an underlying health condition, or are at a fragile age, think twice about the risks of traveling.
Last, but not least, drive safely. With fewer motorists on the road, law enforcement officers are reporting issuing more speeding tickets. There is the risk of major accidents as drivers become daring and careless on uncongested highways.

Coronavirus Impacting the Car Industry
Since it is interconnected globally, the auto industry has been impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Now it appears the U.S. auto industry has shut down, as major manufacturers have halted production and closed their facilities due to Stay at Home and Shelter in Place orders in their states.
The coronavirus has also affected the used car market. Since auto auctions are where car dealers get their inventory and they, too, have shut down, this will affect the availability of pre-owned vehicles.
Since the COVID-19 situation is fluid and changing rapidly, used car shoppers should first check with the status of their local used car dealership. Since the local dealership is close by, they would be able to tell you about its current situation and whether they are open or not.
Carousel Preowned currently has a large inventory of used vehicles available for sale. You can visit the used car dealership's website at www.carouseliowacity.com and shop used and certified pre-owned cars, trucks and SUVs from the convenience of your home. Shoppers can text or call the dealership at (319) 351-1993 or even use their online chat service to inquire about used cars for sale. You can even negotiate the price of a vehicle by email or phone. Driving a connected car is safe and can improve your driving experience, but as a buyer, you needs to be aware that the apps on the used "connected" car or truck that you purchase may still be connected and controlled by the vehicle's previous owner.
