Check Out These Most Fuel-Efficient 5-Year-Old Vehicles
Used car shoppers have been hit not just by record high prices, but now, due to inflation and the Russia-Ukraine crisis, they have to factor in rising gas prices in their search for a used vehicle. This is a big reason for the popularity and high cost of fuel-efficient cars and electric vehicles.
If a hybrid or electric vehicle is not an option for you, there are many used vehicles that are fuel efficient and provide significant savings compared to their brand-new versions. Cars.com recently came out with a list of 2017 model-year vehicles with the highest EPA combined fuel-economy ratings.
Among the most gas only fuel-efficient sedans, hatchbacks and coupes listed in order of the highest combined mpg rating, the Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback, with 37/43/39 mpg city/highway/combined, was at the top of the list, followed by the Chevrolet Cruze (31/47/37 mpg), Honda Fit (33/40/36 mpg), Honda Civic (32/42/36 mpg), and Jaguar XE (32/42/36 mpg).
According to Cars.com, compact and subcompact vehicles dominate the list of most fuel-efficient used SUVs and the Mazda CX-3 at 29/34/31 mpg is the most efficient gas-only model, but apparently, this model will soon be discontinued. The CX-30 will take its place as Mazda’s smallest SUV. Other fuel-efficient SUVs are the Subaru Impreza 5-Door (28/37/31 mpg), Honda HR-V (28/34/31 mpg), Honda CR-V (28/34/30 mpg), and Buick Encore (27/33/30 mpg).
Among gas-powered minivans, the Nissan Quest, which was discontinued after the 2017 model year, is the most fuel-efficient, 5-year-old minivan. Runner-up Chrysler Pacifica (19/28/22 mpg), with its efficiency, quiet ride, spacious interior and convenient Stow ‘n Go seats earned it Cars.com’s Best of 2017 award. The Honda Odyssey (19/27/22 mpg), Toyota Sienna (19/27/22 mpg), and Kia Sedona (18/25/21 mpg), also earn high points for their fuel efficiency ratings.
Mid-size pickup trucks are the most fuel-efficient options in the category of pick-up trucks. Leading on the search engine’s list is the Chevy Colorado and its cousin, the GMC Canyon, with a combined 25 mpg each. Also efficient are the Ram 1500 (20/27/23 mpg), Ford F-150 (19/26/22 mpg), and Honda Ridgeline (19/26/22 mpg).
